ENABLING L1NDA’S RAPID GROWTH
Enabling L1NDA’s next growth leap – that is the challenge Dragan, CTO of L1NDA brought to ASCALab.
THE CLIENT:
L1NDA – THE LEADING WORKFORCE MANAGEMENT PLATFORM FOR SMB
L1NDA provides an innovative workforce management solution to the small businesses (SMB) in Europe. Focusing on the deskless industries such as hospitality, retail, logistics, and care, L1NDA helps businesses manage their employee schedules, time tracking, and workforce optimization. L1NDA’s SaaS platform is a critical component for their customers, streamlining and automating the scheduling and staffing processes.
Traditionally, companies in these industries have struggled with manual and time-consuming processes to create schedules, manage shift changes, and track employee attendance. These inefficiencies often lead to scheduling conflicts, excessive labor costs, employee dissatisfaction, and reduced productivity. With L1NDA, these organizations save tremendous time in their scheduling processes and reduce labor costs by 4%!
THE CHALLENGE:
SCALABLE, ROBUST, AND READY FOR THE NEXT DECADE OF WORKFORCE MANAGEMENT
L1NDA has ambitious growth plans. Serving more customers in more markets and incorporating the newest technologies into its workforce management platform to make scheduling even simpler for its customers. To make this leap, L1NDA partnered with ASCALab.
THE SOLUTION:
Migrating the platform that originated in 2009 to a top-of-the-bill infrastructure, consolidating front-end and building modern integration points were just a few of the key areas identified to enable this growth:
- Migration to AWS: L1NDA sought to migrate its application environment and databases to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to leverage its scalability, reliability, and extensive suite of services.Over 2.200 live client environments, databases, and L1NDA’s full infrastructure were migrated to AWS without interruptions to the production environments. This migration enables L1NDA to scale its infrastructure effectively and handle increased demand.
- Front-end consolidation: L1NDA had a complex front-end architecture developed using a combination of Django, React, and CoffeeScript. Consolidating and streamlining this front end was essential to improve overall system performance and increase the delivery of new modules to L1NDA’s customers. The Self-Service Portal, for example, not only enables current customers to personalize their L1NDA environment but is also a key to facilitating the rapid growth of new customers onboarding on L1NDA.
- Modern integration points: L1NDA’s power is in its connectivity with many other systems, consolidating the key information needed for efficient scheduling. Hence, the core application of L1NDA needs stable integration points with multiple external systems. Bringing standardization to L1NDA’s integration with 3rd parties, resulted in improved performance. In addition, it enabled the ASCALab and L1NDA together to start the development of making standardized end-points available from the L1NDA core application to new 3rd parties to connect with L1NDA.
- Deployment process redesign: To enhance scalability and facilitate rapid updates, L1NDA aimed to redesign its deployment process to align with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices. The new deployment process implemented on AWS immensely reduced the deployment times: from 1,5 hours to less than 10 minutes.
WIFINITY
THE CLIENT:
Founded in 2007, Wifinity was established to provide reliable connectivity solutions to individuals and groups living in remote locations such as military barracks, university accommodation, holiday resorts, shared accommodation, and retirement communities. Unlike traditional broadband services, Wifinity offers super-fast speeds, WiFi, secure and private networks, Pay As You Go, and flexible contracts that cater to customers’ specific needs without imposing long-term commitments or hefty penalties.
THE CHALLENGE:
The Client faced several challenges, including:
- Multiple core platforms, with a legacy platform written in PHP that had to be maintained during the migration to the new Java-based platform, causing difficulties for important clients still using the legacy platform.
- Lack of a proper testing process that followed development cycles (sprints).
- Numerous unresolved support tickets.
- A lack of experienced Java developers to assist with the development of the latest platform version.
THE SOLUTION:
ASCALab provided an effective solution by:
- Establishing a testing process that aligned with development delivery cycles.
- Resolving multiple open support tickets.
- Assigning a senior PHP developer with extensive experience in maintaining legacy platforms to assist with the upkeep of the PHP-based platform.
- Assigning experienced Java developers to aid in the development of the latest platform version.
By implementing these measures, the Client was able to achieve better performance and reliability, increase customer satisfaction, and expand its user base.
